The Minolta Auto Focus Tele (AF-Tele) was introduced in 1985 and is one of Minolta's more interesting point-and-shoot cameras because it uses a dual focal-length lens system instead of a traditional zoom lens. You can switch between 38mm and 60mm with a lever on the front of the camera.

What Makes It Special?

  • Dual focal lengths instead of a zoom lens help maintain better image quality.
  • The 38mm f/2.8 lens is fairly fast for a compact camera from the mid-1980s.
  • The camera's metering system is known for handling backlit scenes surprisingly well.
  • Supports 46mm filters, which is uncommon for compact point-and-shoot cameras.

Minolta Auto Focus Tele 35mm Film Camera

  • 35mm point-and-shoot film camera
  • Dual focal-length lens: 38mm f/2.8 and 60mm f/4.3
  • Autofocus operation
  • Built-in automatic flash
  • DX-coded film recognition (ISO 25–1600)
  • Self-timer function
  • Uses standard 35mm film
  • Compact and easy-to-use design
  • Released in 1985

This model has developed a bit of a cult following among film photographers because the 38mm f/2.8 lens is noticeably sharper than many later zoom point-and-shoots while still giving the flexibility of a short telephoto option.
